Flare

Privacy Policy

Effective November 6, 2026

The short version: Flare has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. What you put into Flare stays on your devices and in your own iCloud. We don't run servers that collect it, and we never sell or share it.

Who we are

Flare: Hockey Tracking & Training ("Flare") is an app for iPhone and Apple Watch made by Patrick Dollard. Questions about this policy go to support@flarehockey.app.

Where your information is kept

Your profile, teams, schedules, games, stats and training sessions are stored on your devices. If you use iCloud, Flare keeps a copy in your own private iCloud account so it is available on your other Apple devices. Apple holds that data under Apple's Privacy Policy; we cannot see it.

Sharing a team

If you share a team, Flare uses iCloud sharing so the people you invite can see that team's schedule, roster, lines and stats. Only people you invite (or who accept an invite from the team's owner) can see shared team information. You can stop sharing or leave a team at any time.

Apple Health

With your permission, Flare reads your hockey workouts, heart rate and active energy to show live heart rate on the ice and to build your on-ice and post-game summaries. It saves the mobility sessions you finish as workouts, meditations as Mindful Minutes, and the hockey workouts you record. Health information is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared with anyone else. You can change these permissions in the Health app at any time.

Camera

Flare can use the camera and LiDAR scanner to measure your butterfly flare. The picture is read on your device as it is taken and is never saved or sent anywhere.

Location

When you open a skate-day session, Flare can check whether you are at the rink so it plans with the equipment you keep there. Your location is checked on your device and is not kept or sent anywhere. If you set a rink's location yourself, it is saved with that rink.

Calendar

Flare can keep its own "Flare Skates" calendar up to date with your practices, games and scrimmages. It does not read or change events in your other calendars.

Schedule links

When you add a calendar link published by your team or league, Flare downloads that public schedule from the website the link points to (for example a league's SportNinja page). Flare only asks for the schedule; it does not send your personal information to those sites.

What we don't do

Beta testing

If you test Flare through Apple's TestFlight, Apple may share crash reports, basic device details and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send with us, along with the name and email you were invited with. We use these only to fix problems and improve Flare. See Apple's TestFlight terms for what Apple collects.

Children

Flare can be used to follow a young player's hockey. Because Flare keeps information on your devices and in your own iCloud rather than collecting it, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. A parent or guardian who has questions can contact us at the address above.

Deleting your information

Deleting Flare removes its data from that device. To remove the copy in iCloud, open Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, and manage Flare's storage. Health data Flare saved stays in the Health app until you delete it there.

Changes to this policy

If Flare starts handling information differently, we will update this page and change the date at the top before the change reaches the app.
